Our Instructors

Kim Novak, Admission Director, Financial Officer: Kim is originally from Chicago and in the beauty industry for 26 years. Her dedication in quality education through individual attention to students is her trademark.
In 1985, as a new instructor, Kim worked beside Audrey Swanson, her mother and owner, of Crown College of Cosmetology, Inc. Her skills as an educator were fine-tuned to make her teaching positive, informative and educational.
In 1996 Kim became the owner of Crown College of Cosmetology, Inc. Since that time she has remodeled the school, developed a new creative curriculum and employed staff members who share her vision that success fosters pride, pride fosters excitement, and excitement fosters learning.

Kim's philosophy for learning is:
1. Small classes allow instructors to give individual attention to students.
2. Personal attention cultivates creative thinking.
3. Individual attention give students a solid foundation to become successful in
    the industry.
4. A one on one teaching system instills the desire for lifelong learning.

Kim believes that you can never learn enough in this changing career.  That is why she attends many continued education classes to keep the school up to date with the current trends. One of her most recent classes, she attended a workshop at the Vidal Sassoon Academy in Miami.  She is a member of the National Cosmetology Association as well as the Indiana Cosmetology Educators Association.

Roberta Hazzard, Director of Education: Roberta received her cosmetology license in Kentucky. She has been in the beauty industry for 20 years and the Director of Education of Crown college for the past 10 years. Her experience in the salon ranges from a stylist, nail tech, and a corporate manager who employed and educated new stylists.
In the corporate salon Roberta developed the skills needed to be an effective educator. Watching new stylists that required advanced skills encouraged her to become a teacher. Her desire for student to be skilled, confident and successful shows in her teaching techniques. Roberta teaches with diversity and humor, her students are successful and creative.
Roberta's knowledge has been advanced through her memberships in the National Cosmetology Association, International Nail Technology Association, The Chicago Cosmetology Association and the Indiana Cosmetology Educators Associations. Her recent advanced education class was taken in Miami at Vidal Sassoon Educational Workshop. She is currently working on her Masters Educator's certification.

Diane Gibbon, Coordinator of Intro to Cosmetology:  A native of Indiana Diana began her career at Crown College 22 years ago. She focused on her goals to become an instructor within the first year of holding her license. Working in a salon as a stylist, Diane began taking instructor training and acquired her teacher's license in 1983, and Crown College was the choice to begin her teaching career.
In the 20 years Diane has been with the College and has educated students from the Intro Program to the Advance Program. Her calm disposition and uniqueness in teaching encourage students to become successful in creativity.
Her pursuit for higher education shows in her expertise in advance skin care and hair removal. Diane believes that education is a gift and enjoys monitoring students from the beginning of a new career to completion of our program.
